During the Super Bowl, President Biden made a special appearance on social media. What did he decide to talk about? Abortion? Guns? The border security/Ukraine showdown?
None of the above. Instead, he addressed a consumer issue that unites us all: Shrinkflation!
Cooper, you ask, what in the world is shrinkflation? And why was the President using his bully pulpit to bring up something other than the pressing issues of the day?
The President was talking about some food producers who have been selling tinier and tinier packages but keeping the prices the same.
To underscore his point, the President displayed a bunch of popular, brand-named snacks, and spoke directly to the food manufacturers, urging them to stop this unsavory practice.
“It’s a rip-off,” Biden said. “Give me a break. The American public are tired of being played for suckers.”
He tapped into consumer disgust about getting fewer snacks with no price break in sight.
For one moment, during the most-watched sports event of the year, the President unified us by appealing to our taste buds—and our pocketbooks!
